The device has an arrangement for detecting at least one measurement value. It also has an analysis unit in which the measured value is compared with a reference value. When the reference value is exceeded a fault state is output. A voltage measurement value of a switched off motor cable forms the measured value. Preferably the voltage value is determined in such a time period in which the terminal voltage of the same motor cable is not present. The time interval corresponds to the pulse duration.
