Iron-type golf clubhead with optimised point of least rigidity

A cavity backed iron clubhead is constructed so that the point of least rigidity of the striking plate is generally aligned with the centre of gravity of the clubhead. This alignment can be produced by attaching an insert of lower density to the high toe area of the back cavity (Figure 9) or by making specific areas of the face thicker (Figure 20).
