<p>The front surface of the backrest is irradiated with infrared beams from an array of LEDs (101) via a transmission lens (106). The five spots are imaged by a reception lens (104) on to an array of photodetectors (201) wired to a microprocessor (202). The contour of the seat, or of the person or object occupying it, is deduced from the scattered infrared radiation with the aid of additional imaging lenses (108) and pyroelectric detectors (103) to determine whether the occupant is a living (infrared-emitting) person or an inanimate object.</p> |
