Casting engine piston using support ring

During casting the support ring (4) is held by an inserted core (6) intended for the cooling channel, with the ring held in place by spring slats (12) or pins (10) on the core, fitting into grooves on the inside of the ring. The pins should be pressed into or clipped onto the core thus engaging the ring in the grooves when the ring is turned in relation to the salt core. The core should be recessed etc. to take the end of the pin or strap used, with the ring thus held at core height or slightly above or below this. The pins etc. can be Z- or L-shaped or have both ends in one plane via an arched centre part. The spring strap if used as holder encloses the core at its free end and is here fixed to the core to prevent the holders detaching the core during casting.
