PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce friction resistance with a sliding part so as to improve an increased fastening effect by making a core material mainly of a plastic material obtained by subjecting a structure obtained by entangling metallic linear materials to a solution treatment in a gland packing for covering the surface of the core material with knitting yarns. SOLUTION: A metallic plastic material 1 is provided by subjecting a braid obtained by knitting stainless steel wires as a core material to a solution treatment and, after its surface braided by expansive graphite yarns 16, graphite treatment is performed to form a covering braided part 2. Then, this is formed to be ring-like to make a required gland packing. In a shaft seal device for sealing fluids, the gland packing is used for at least one selected from adapter packing installed in both end and one end among loaded packings and the other packing is made a soft packing. Thus, a fastening force in an axial direction is transmitted well, torque and sliding resistance are reduced and thereby sealing is improved. |
