A mixture of a casting resin, which may be hardened, together with a solid filler is poured into a mould under vacuum and hten cured. the finished body includes an insert of glass fibre, or similar, woven or coiled and bonded with the casting resin. The insert, free of resin, is first placed in the mould tool and both are brought under vacuum to pouring temperature. The resin filler mix is then poured under vacuum until the insert is completely filled and the insulator is then cured. A range of fillers, casting resins, and insert materials are proposed pref. polyesters, polyepoxides and polyurethane. |
