PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a base fabric for ink ribbons, having the total density of the warps and the wefts at a prescribed value or larger, having a thickness of a specific value or larger, good in a graphic irregularity-preventing property, giving prints excellent in visibility, and useful for cassette type ink ribbons, etc. SOLUTION: This base fabric for ink ribbons has a total density of the warps and the wefts at a value of >=300 fiber/inch, a crimp rate of fibers constituting the warps of the base fabric at a value of <9%, and a base fabric thickness of >=125μm. The warps have a single fiber fineness of >=3 denier, and the wafts have a single fiber fineness of 0.5-1.0 denier. Both the warps and the wefts are not twisted. At least the warps rare subjected to an interlacing treatment so as to give interlaced sites of 5-100 sites/m. The base fabric preferably has a warp ink adsorption rate of 15-20%, which is determined by a weight method from warps obtained by disintegrating a base fabric printed with a dye-based oily ink in an amount of 14g/m<2> .
