PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the more secure, steady prevention of dark background on a developed image by providing a cleaning electrode having an application voltage which is large enough for toner particles sticking to the surface of a developing member to be released from the surface of the developing member under the action of an electrostatic field. SOLUTION: The system is equipped with a means for applying an inverse- development voltage to a sleeve 12 so that electrified toner powder is caused to stick to the actual non-electrification area of a photoconductive drum 10. Further, a cleaning electrode 42 is provided with a certain distance left from the surface of the sleeve 12. The cleaning electrode 42 has the application voltage which is large enough for the toner particles sticking to the surface of the sleeve 12 to be released from the surface of the sleeve 12 under the action of an electric field existing in an empty space between the sleeve 12 and cleaning electrode 42. In this structure, the cleaning electrode 42 actively removes the toner particles sticking to the surface of the sleeve 12, and prevents an increase in excess surface-charges on the sleeve 12. |
