PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller, by which a frequency of downshifting of a stepped transmission can be reduced maximally when a vehicle is slowed down to the predetermined vehicle speed, for a stepped transmission. SOLUTION: In a controller provided with a navigation system, which detects a road condition of a traveling route of a vehicle, and a stepped type automatic transmission, which is controlled on the basis of the road condition of the traveling route, a deceleration demanding position detection means (step 1) detecting a corner in the traveling route, target vehicle speed computing means (step 3) computing a target vehicle speed complying with the corner, deceleration determining means (steps 4, 5, 6) determining whether the deceleration for bringing the vehicle speed to the target vehicle speed is not less than the predetermined value or not, and gear shift controlling means (steps 9, 10) downshifting the automatic transmission when it is determined that the deceleration is the predetermined value or more are provided. |
