OPTICAL DEMULTIPLEXING SYSTEM

An optical demultiplexing system enables a wanted channel to be extracted as an optical signal from an optical carrier modulated by a TDM data flow. The system makes use of a semiconductor optical amplifier, whose gain is modulated by saturation effect. The amplifier receives both the modulated optical carrier and one or more sampling optical carriers, with wavelengths different from that of the modulated carrier. One or more optical filters extract from the amplifier output the sampling carrier or carriers modulated by the wanted data signal or signals.
