Compounds represented by general formula (1) or salts thereof; and drugs containing the same as the active ingredient. Because of having potent squalene synthetase inhibitory effects, these compounds are useful as remedies or preventives for hypercholesterolemia, etc. In said formula, X<1> represents esterifiable carboxy, etc.; Y<1> represents a single bond, etc.; at least one of A<1>, A<2> and A<3> represents: -R<2>-a<1>-R<3>-a<2>}, wherein R<2> represents a divalent hydrocarbon group; R<3> represents a single bond etc.; a<1> and a<2> represent each a single bond, -S-, etc.; and } represents the bond to Q<1>, Q<2> or Q<3>; while the remainder(s) represent: -R<8>-a<3>-R<9>-a<4>}, wherein R<8> and R<9> represent each a single bond, etc.; a<3> and a<4> represent each a single bond, -S-, etc.; and } represents the bond to Q<1>, Q<2> or Q<3>; and at least one of Q<1>, Q<2> and Q<3> represents cyclic hydrocarbyl, etc., while the remainder(s) represent hydrogen, etc.
