<p>In a method for strengthening a textile floor covering (1) and fixing the latter on an underlying surface, a textile web held together by mechanical binding and consisting of a needled fleece of fibres (6), pieces of cloth or the like or tufting is laid onto a floor (2) to be covered, and at least the region of the textile web adjacent to the floor (2) is strengthed by a binder (4) and at the same time the textile web is fixed to the floor (2) by means of this binder (4).
