A process of forming a dye transfer image comprises imagewise heating, by a thermal print head, a dye-donor element comprising a support bearing a layer contg. a sublimable, metallisable dye precursor disposed in a polymeric binder, and transferring a dye image to a dye-receiving element comprising a support bearing a dye image-receiving layer which comprises an extruded polymer comprising a transition metal ion salt of a carboxylic acid. Also claimed is a thermal dye transfer assembly comprising dye-donor and dye-receiving elements as above.
