PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to control the contamination by microorganisms and to culture the tissues of plants by allowing at least the plant tissues and essential oils to exist in combination. SOLUTION: For example, the medium is obtd. by dropping 100μl various kinds of the essential oils to 320ml Murashige & Skoog agar medium dispensed into a flay bottom test tube of 4cm in diameter. Next, 2cm terminal buds of field cultivated lavender are immersed into 75% ethanol and after these buds are washed once with distilled water subjected to sterilization, the buds are sterilized for 10 minutes with a 1wt.% sodium hypochlorite soln. incorporated with Tween 20 (surfactant) at a ratio of one drop per 40ml and are washed three times with the distilled water subjected to sterilization. About 5mm front ends of the sterilized terminal buds are planted onto the medium described above and are cultured for 5 months and thereafter, the contamination rates when the essential oils are added and when the essential oils are not added are compared. The result of the contamination rate of 0% when the essential oils are added in obtd. with respect to the contamination rate of 25% when the essential oils are not added.
