The invention aims to provide a control device which has a personalized shape and optimally conforms to an operator's individual anatomy. To this end, the operator shapes to his taste the soft upper surface of the control device housing, all or part of which can initially be plastically formed, or shapes said upper surface with that part of his body (hand, foot, other) which is to be used to operate said control device. In so doing the operator leaves an individual impression on the upper surface in the form of a negative mould. This yields a unique, personalized shape. The optional placement of probes, switches and sensors in the shaped housing, followed by hardening of the surface by a process suitable for the material used, results in a personalized, unique control device which is easy to operate and of attractive appearance.
