Quench-cutting of a continuous strip of glass comprises creating preferred zone of transverse and closed contour cracking, which are obtained by modifying the conditions of heat exchange w.r.t. the remainder of the sheet, before quenching, by screens or shields of appropriate shape placed on the upper surface of the glass strip and cooperating with an upwardly reflecting surface placed below the other surface. Immediately prior to quenching the upper surface of the strip, other than in those zones lying below the screens is subjected to direct-heating by radiation directed onto it, and to indirect treatment on its under face by heat reflecting surface, other than in those zones lying below the screens.
|
