Each sidewall of a radial ply tyre is reinforced by a layer of elastomeric material having a hysteresis loss not in excess of 25% disposed between the crown and one of the beads of the tyre in the region of the tyre's greatest width. The elastomeric layer may be incorporated into the carcass or into the sidewall or be applied to the inside surface of the sidewall. The elastomeric layer may also be provided with either textile or metallic cord reinforcements laid in radial planes or at an angle of 10-30 degrees thereto. A ply of steel cords may be disposed in radial planes in each sidewall outside the carcass cords (see Fig. 2 (not shown). |
