PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the contrast in a plasma address display device. SOLUTION: This device has a plasma cell 2 formed by arranging a dielectric thin plate on a 1st substrate 8 having nearly parallel discharge electrodes formed on one main surface with a prescribed gap and sealing the periphery with a seal part 11, and on the said dielectric thin plate, a 2nd substrate 4 having electrodes formed on the opposite surface almost at right angles to the said discharge electrodes is superposed with an electroptic material layer in between. On the side of the 2nd substrate, a light source 14 is arranged and the said 1st substrate 8 is arranged on a display surface side. |
