PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain stable servo characteristics when signals are reproduced by a CD player or a CD-ROM drive by forming a metal or alloy thin film layer between a substrate and a recording layer. SOLUTION: In this optical recording medium produced by forming a recording layer 2, a reflection layer 3 and a protective layer 4 on a substrate 1 having grooves 6, a metal or alloy thin film layer 5 is formed between the substrate 1 and the recording layer 2. The thin film layer 5 is formed to 2 to 20nm thickness and the product of the thermal conductivity and film thickness of the thin film layer 5 is controlled to 0.04 to 4×10<-6> W/K. When the recording layer is irradiated with laser light for recording, the layer 5 helps conduction of the heat generated by thermal decomposition of a dye causes modification and decomposition of a dye in the part around the laser spot which is heated but not modified or decomposed and to assist spreading of the pit. Therefore, servo characteristics with stable deviation of reproduced IIT signals can be obtd. |
