Floating island for vegetation comprises a three-dimensional or multi-layered fabric of yarns. The island has a bulked and porous cross section, through which the plant roots pass. The fabric (3) can be coarse warp knit material or woven. The island is also fitted with floats (1) such as hoses or compact cables made of e.g. polypropylene.
