Removal of a protective wax layer from a motor vehicle

A method for removing a wax-containing protective layer from an object, especially for removing a protective layer from a motor vehicle, comprises the following steps : (1) the surface of the object coated with the protective layer is dried ; (2) an essentially anhydrous solvent containing a liquid aliphatic hydrocarbon is applied onto the object surface ; (3) the solvent is left to act upon the protective layer ; and (4) the dissolved protective layer and solvent are washed away with water. Also claimed are: (i) the solvent used in this method, which is essentially anhydrous and mainly comprises liquid aliphatic hydrocarbons with a small amount of additives, including a surfactant and (ii) a cleaning plant for carrying out this method.
