A hygiene product made up of cellulose, especially a cellulose hygiene cloth, has at least two layers (5,6,7,8) of tissue, nonwoven material, or multi-ply of layers thereof which are bonded to one another by means of an embossed pattern consisting of a large number of individual indentations (2,3) which deform the layers in a direction perpendicular to their surfaces and which bind the layers together. The indentations are concave and extend inwards from the surfaces of the cloth, and the bonding strength is set by the embossing pressure. Adjacent indentations, which project inwards alternately from opposite sides of the product and are offset with respect to one another in such a way that the base surface (9) of each indentation (2,3) extending from the outer surface of one side of the product is bonded by ply adhesion to the unembossed wall (10) of the outer surface of the other side of the cloth, whilst the arrangement is the inverse for the indentation next to it. Also claimed is an arrangement for making the claimed product. A pair of rotating steel rolls enclose a gap between them through which the product is passed. The rolls each have embossing studs arranged so that the studs on one roll extend into the space between the studs on the other, and the tips of the studs on one roll pass very close to but do not touch the steel, ceramic or other hard material in the spaces between the studs on the opposite roll.
