Fluorinated phenantrene derivatives of the formula (I), in which G means -CHF-CH2-or -CF=CH-; E<1>, E<2>, E<3>, E<4>, E<5>, E<6> are identical or different and mean -CH-, -CF- or -N-; and R<1>(-A<1>-M<1>)a(-A<2>-M<2>)b, (M<3>-A<3>)c (M<4>-A<4>-)dR<2> are mesogene radicals, are suited as components for liquid crystal, in particular ferro-electric mixtures.
