1,185,396. Change-speed control. HONDA GIJUTSU KENKYUSHO K.K. 21 Aug., 1967 [30 Aug., 1966], No. 38498/67. Heading F2D. In a ratchet stepwise shift change-speed control in which movement of the gear pedal 6 causes step-by-step rotation of a selector drum 1 through claws 9 and 10 on a lever 8 engaging pins 12, 13 on the drum, the neutral position is provided between the second and first speed positions, and neutral is always found on attempting a 2-1 downshift, two steps of the pedal 6, second-neutral and neutral-first, being required to effect such a downshift. As shown, the pin 13 is provided with a head 13A on which the arm 8 slides. Positive stops 24, 26 provided on the drum 1 and arm 8 respectively, abut to prevent further movement of arm 8, when moving from second to first, to find neutral, but, on releasing pedal 6 which returns to its inactive position under the action of spring 4, claw 9 rides on a cam surface 25 provided on stop 24 which cams the lever 8 off the head 13A of pin 13 on to the body thereof, spring 14 maintaining the lever against the side of the head. On again stepping the pedal 6, the stops are thus clear of each other, and first speed position is attained. Change speed arm 8 is then withdrawn by return spring 14, pin 12 pushing the arm 8 via the normally inoperative surface of claw 9 away from the pin neck towards and into contact with the pin head 13A. A spring-loaded roller detent 23 abuts concave surfaces 17-21, representing first-fourth speed positions and neutral respectively, in a cam plate 15 on drum 1, to retain the drum in its selected speed position. |
