Method and reading device with memory prediction

An address code is transferred from the CPU (18) to a first address register (16A) of the memory (10). The code is compared with that in a second address register (16B) and the memory is read at the address corresponding to the first register if the codes are not identical and that corresponding to the second register if the codes are identical. The next address code is then calculated according to the preceding code using a chosen prediction function and the result is stored in the second register. The comparison is then repeated. The speed of operation may be increased by immediately reading the contents of the second resister address for transfer to the CPU if the codes match.
