[Also in Division G2] In a photo-metric solution analyzer the samples are contained in cuvettes 9 located in the periphery of a power-driven rotor assembly 1, each liquid sample being formed from reagents and reactants which are placed in separate chambers 15 when the rotor is at rest but which are mixed together and urged outwardly through the passage 16 into the cuvette when the rotor is rotated. The transmissivities of the separate samples are displayed on a CRO 25, Figs. 3-5 (not shown), which is connected to the output of a photo-multiplier 20. The chambers 15 are located in a detachable plate, and after an initial mixing and consequent analysis of a solution in each cuvette, a new plate 15 containing a different combination of reagents and reactants may be introduced, and the effect of these new reagents and reactants on the sample in the corresponding cuvette may be determined photo-metrically by again rotating the rotor. To ensure adequate mixing, the rotor is first accelerated rapidly to transfer liquid to the cuvettes, is then decelerated rapidly to facilitate mixing, and finally reaccelerated to a suitable speed for testing. The apparatus may be applied to the determination of a common substance in a multiplicity of discrete samples.</p> |
