ANTIMICROBIAL FIBROUS ACTIVATED CARBON AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject activated carbon that has a strength enough to be practically used and is useful for a package material for freshness reservation by baking and fixing silver zeolite to fibrous activated carbon prepared from cotton balls using silicic anhydride derived from colloidal silica. SOLUTION: Silver zeolite is admixed to a colloidal silica solution and cotton balls are soaked in the solution, heat-treated at 150-300 deg.C and subjected to the activation treatment in an atmosphere containing steam at 650-750 deg.C. The soaking treatment is controlled so that the amount of silicic anhydride becomes 0.5-5wt.% and silver zeolite becomes 0.1-3wt.% based on the antimicrobial fibrous activated carbon.
