An energetic composition capable of being fired by heat generated when electrical energy is applied according to the present invention includes a firing material that fires in response to application of heat and contains less than 5 weight % of a resistive material, preferably graphitic nanotubes, that has strands having a width that are preferably smaller than 2 microns and a length that is substantially greater than the width. The strands of resistive material are dispersed in the energetic composition in a manner to create conductive paths which, upon application of sufficient electrical energy, will generate heat sufficient to fire the firing material. Initiators which use this energetic composition, as well as methods for making the energetic composition and initiators are also described. |
