O-DESACETYL-7-N-ACYLAMINO-CEPHALOSPO ACIDS. M3A. are new compounds of formula: (R1 is an acyl group of an alkanoic acid substd. by a cyclic group having a free amino group attached to an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic. C atom, R2 is H or opt. substd. hydrocarbyl, n = 0 or 1), including salts of I. Cyclic substituents in R1 may be cycloalkyl (C3-C8) opt. substd. by alkyl, alkoxy, OH, CF3, NO2 halogen and opt. containing a double bond, phenyl, pyridyl, thienyl or furyl which may be similarly substituted the NH2 group is in the alpha- or beta-position relative to the CO group. Specific compounds claimed include O-desacetyl-O-(beta-chloroethyl-carbamoyl)-7-N- D-(-)-alpha-pheny- lglycyl aminocaphalosporanic acid. Use as long acting broad spectrum antibiotics active against Gram-ve and Gram-ve organisms esp. pencillium resistant Staph. aureus, E. coli, Kl. pneumoniae Salm. typhosa, Pseudomonas, B. protens. Also used in animal foodstuffs and as disinfectants or preservatives.
