<p>Phenylacetic acid is prepd. by oxidising phenylacetaldehyde with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a transition metal optionally associated with a derivative of a group IIIa or IVa metal, a lanthanide or actinide. Phenylacetic acid is an intermediate for penicillin prepn., phenylacetone prepn., and prepn. of esters for use in perfumes.</p> |
