PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable detection of a respiration rate of a patient and the depth of respiration to a certain extent by a method wherein changes in the amplitude of heart sound being sensed are analyzed to determine the respiration rate and the depth of the respiration from the changes in the amplitude and the abnormality of the changes in the amplitude is detected as indicating the abnormality of the respiration. SOLUTION: A weight 8 is fixed on one free end part of a piezo-electric rod 6 of an accelerator of a pace maker and the other end part is mounted on a printed circuit board. A signal from the piezo-electric element 6 is amplified by an inversion amplifier 12 to remove a frequency related to physical motion of patients by bypass filtering with a bypass filter 14. When a normal change is detected in the amplitude of a heat sound signal, an analyzer 20 outputs 'OK' audio signal or when the heart sound having a too low change in amplitude is detected and continues beyond a specified period, a first alarm 22 is triggered. In addition, when the heart sound is not sensed for a specified time length, a second alarm 24 is triggered. |
