A printing apparatus such as laser beam printer or page printer comprises a developing unit to sequentially develop received print data into a development memory and controller to control the order to generate the developed information from the development memory on the basis of information which has been set by a host computer or the printing apparatus. The print data includes a character code, position information to develop the character code into the development memory, and information indicative of a font pattern which is used when developing.
