Anti-fouling paint for ships - contg tri-alkyl tin esters of halogenated dibasic organic acids

The paints contain a sufficient quantity for control of sea-organisms of cpds. of formula R3SnO.OC-R'-CO.OSnR3 (in which R is alkyl or phenyl, and R' a halogenated ethylene or halogenated phenylene group) and a film-forming material. They prevent growth of molluscs and esp. algae and seaweed on ships bottoms and undersea structures for long periods, are less toxic and unpleasant in smell than known organic tin compounds and do not stimulate the mucous membranes.
