Crimped yarns - from polymer materials continuously stretched and bent over sharp edge

Extended, synthetic polymer material, pref. polyamide, polyester or polyolefins, or a polyurethane, PVC, PVA or PAN, present opt. as monofilaments, multifilament yarns or threads, fabric strips, esp. long, narrow strips is stretched, pref. with heating, more pref. in 2 steps, and led, without complete intermediate batching onto a package and while under tension, over and in contact with an edge, e.g. a knife or razor's edge, so that it is bent at an angle over or round the edge, whereby it is latently crimped; and subsequently relaxed to form crimped filaments. Products are useful as yarns for hosiery and knitwear, tufted carpets, warp knitting, nonwoven fabrics, e.g. felts, floor covers, filter cloths, staple fibre for staple yarn, fabrics or felts. Felts can be further used for tennis ball prodn.
