PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the fuel supply ability in the high pressure fuel supply device of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The high pressure pump 11 of a fuel supply device 10 is provided with a cylinder 20, a plunger reciprocating in the cylinder 20 and a pressurizing room 22 formed dividingly by the cylinder 20 and the plunger 21. The pressurizing room 22 is connected to a fuel tank 13 by a flow in passage 30. A low pressure feed pump 14 and a check valve 31 are provided in the flow in passage 30. The pressurizing room 22 and a fuel reservoir 55 are connected by a supply passage 35. The fuel press-fed from the pressurizing room 22 to the fuel reservoir 55 in response to the reciprocation of the plunger 21 is injected and supplied from the injector 56 to each cylinder of an engine E. The pressurizing room 22 is connected to the fuel tank 13 by a spil passage 39. A spil valve 41 and a pressure control valve 40 are provided in the spil passage 39. By changing the open/close time of the spil valve 41 by ECU 60, the fuel press-feed amount from the pressurizing room 22 to the fuel reservoir 55 is adjusted.
