A roll calibrating process and device are disclosed for a roll train within a wire rolling plant, in particular wire casting and rolling plants, with several sets of rolls having each three rolls per roll stand. In order to eliminate the disadvantages of the prior art, the invention is aimed at influencing material flow so that the finishing groove is completely filled and wires with high-quality roundness, above the valid EN 1715-1 manufacturing standards, may be produced. For that purpose, a hexagonal roll groove (5a) is arranged at least at the beginning of the reduction pass and a triangular roll groove (5a) is arranged as a blooming groove (5b) at the end of the reduction pass, followed by a round finishing groove (5c). The contour (9) of the finishing groove (5c) of each roll (8) has a radius rFk 1.6 to 2 % smaller than half the nominal wire diameter D and a pass PF located on the center line M' of the roll gap (10) opposite to the contour (9). The contour (6) of the blooming groove (5b) of each roll (4) has a radius rVk equal to 1.05 D to 1.5 D, D being the nominal wire diameter. The pass PV for the radius rVk lies on the center line M of the roll gap (7) opposite to the contour (6) and is set back from the centre of the groove, towards the roll gap (7), by 40 to 85 % of the nominal wire diameter (D). The contours (9, 6) end in outlet contours with a defined radius.
