Sustained release isothiocyanic ester compounds which can be used in building materials and food-related applications, or applications requiring antibacterial, antimold, and antimicrobial properties, such as leather products, clothes, and bedclothes and which are prepared by a process characterized by incorporating an isothiocyanic ester compound into a polymer material having an affinity therefor to form a gel or a sol; and a material for the sustained release of the ester compounds. Housing the sustained release isothiocyanic ester compounds in a holder having a section permeable to the ester compounds in at least a part thereof provides the objective material which can persistently release the isothiocyanic ester compounds for a long period of time independently of the humidity conditions.
