PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING DECORATIVE ARTICLES

A process for producing two decorative articles including, for example, a flower or plant container or holder, from a single rock, in which a core drill bit is used to drill into the rock to produce a cylindrical core, and the core is then removed from the rock to leave a cavity in the rock so that the rock becomes a decorative container suitable for accommodating a plant or flowers. The core itself is polished to provide a further decorative article, and may also be drilled to suit it for use as a candle holder or cut flower holder. The invention also provides apparatus for performing the core drilling, including an enclosure having walls capable of surrounding the rock, and clamps within the enclosure for firmly holding the rock during the drilling. The walls may be fixed to a cement or concrete floor which also carries the drill.
