This invention relates to one of microorganisms which is a mutant of Microbacter ium named 851R. The main characteristics of this strain are as follows : a Gram-pos itive bacterium, motionless, with nitrate reduction ability, able to produce H2S, aliv e in milk heated to 63.degree.C for 30 minutes or to 72.degree.C for 15 minutes. The thal lus is of red or orange red colour. However, the colour of the thallus is turned to pink at abou t 38.degree.C and to colourless at 40.degree.C. In particular, the DNA of the strain contains R fragment which is detectable with a special R fragment DNA probe. The invention also relates to an industrial process for producing single cell pr otein nutrient solution by an application of the bacterium. In this process, a Microb acterium strain 851R being cultivated in this invention is the producing strain, a soybea n medium or starch medium acts mainly as the producing medium. |
