摘要 Once installed in an inert atmosphere, the device (2) to be disposed is opened up so its pyrophoric component contacts the atmosphere whereupon this component is burnt off by metering in air as oxygen. The pyrophoric component is selected from a group including white Ph, organic metal cpds, Li-organic, Mg-organic and Al-organic cpds, and again linear and branched alkyl-organic cpds of Li, Mg and Al specifically C1-C4 alkyls, butyllithium, t-butyllithium, triethylaluminium, and used for shells with or without explosives, e.g. incendiary grenades. In the case of shells etc contg explosives, the pyrophoric component has to be removed mechanically in inert atmosphere and the explosive part then removed and air admitted. The pyrophoric component can be removed with an aprotic solvent such as hexane or toluene, using N, He, Ar or Ne as inert atmosphere. The device can be unscrewed or drilled open by robot and the gas from the fire is fed into a dust separator, then to a high-temperature reactor and thence passed over an adsorber before venting to atmosphere. The inert gas is fed into a burn-off chamber (6) and the shell etc, brought in and located by transporter (4), is opened up by remote controlled screwdriver etc complete with feed and clutch-fitted extractor motor (13).
