The circuit for controlling the picture tube (4) in a television receiver connects the outputs of the output amplifiers (1,2,3) via a diode (5,6,7) to a circuit point (d) with a voltage (U1) such that the amplitude of the output voltage (UR,UG,UB) of the output amplifiers does not exceed, in the direction of white, a prescribed value corresponding to peak white. Preferably the three diodes are connected to a common circuit point (d) of fixed voltage. The fixed voltage (U1) is stabilized by a zener diode (8). The circuit point (a) is connected to earth via the parallel circuit of the zener diode (8) and a capacitor (9), and is connected to an operating voltage source via a resistor (10).
