1364861 Disc brakes GIRLING Ltd 10 May 1972 [11 May 1971] 14133/71 Heading F2E A reaction-type disc brake has a caliper member, e.g. a yoke 12 mounted slidably on a body member 10 and a return spring member 19 acting between the caliper member and the body member 10 and simultaneously serving to secure at least one pad guiding member 24. The guiding member 24 radially locates and retains directly and indirectly operated pad assemblies 15, 17. In the construction shown the pad guiding member has two parallel limbs 25 (26, Fig. 2, not shown) connected by a central portion 28, the free ends of the limbs 25 (26) being slidably mounted in holes 27 in the body member 10 and the central portion 28 being clamped against the yoke 12 by means of a bolt 22 which cooperates with the return spring member 19 and the yoke 12. A pad anti-rattle spring 30 is provided, the return spring member 19 acting on the body therethrough. The return spring mem- ber 19 is substantially U-shaped and each limb 20 (21, Fig. 2, not shown) thereof is provided with a notch 37 so that, on wear of the brake pads and the consequent "overtravel" of the brake pads during a brake application the limbs 20 (21) plastically deform so that the wear of the indirectly operated pad is taken up automatically. |
