PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject high-quality compound by controlling the content of propylene in the raw material to a specified lever or lower when a reaction is to be conducted between a C2 H2 -based unsaturated compound, carbon monoxide and an alcohol in the presence of a carbonylating catalyst. SOLUTION: When the aimed methyl methacrylate is to be produced by reaction of methylacetylene as raw material with carbon monoxide and an alcohol, the content of propylene in the raw material is controlled to pref. <=5wt.%, more preferably, <=3wt.%. The molar ratio for the alcohol and the raw material is normally set at (0.01:1) to (100:1). The catalyst to be used for the above reaction is pref. group VIII metal catalyst such as of Pd or Pt, being composed of at least one kind of compound of the above metal and an organophosphine compound as ligand, the amount of the metal source to be used is set at 10<-5> to 10<-1> gram atom per mol of the raw material compound, and the molar ratio of the ligand to the metal compound(s) is set at pref. 5-500. The reaction temperature is set at 10-200 (pref. 20-180, esp. pref. 30-160) deg.C, while the reaction pressure pref. 1-100kg/cm<2> . |
