PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a free-running differential gear device which can prevent the lubricating function of a differential gear part from lowering so as to ensure a sufficient large force in a drive force cut-off part, and which can prevent occurrence of a risk such that a control device is exposed to an obstacle. SOLUTION: In a free-running differential gear device for transmitting an input from a differential gear casing 1, through torque allocation, to a pair of side gears 4, 5 which are meshed with each other through the intermediary of a plurality of pinion gears 3 journalled to a pinion shaft 2 orthogonal to the rotary shaft of the differential gear casing 1, at opposite sides of the pinion gears 3, at least one of the side gears 4, 5 is disengageably engaged with a drive shaft 15. In this arrangement, A clutch part 6 for engaging and disengaging the side gear 5 to and from the drive shaft 15 is located at a large diameter part in the vicinity of the meshing part between the side gear 5 and the pinion gears 3.
