PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon carbide ceramic material having excellent heat resistance, corrosion resistance, hardness and wear resistance, high toughness and a self-lubricating function which can be used for sliding member to be used in a severe environment. SOLUTION: This ceramic material is produced by sintering and joining a cement carbide source material powder containing nickel as a binder with a silicon carbide two-layer structure sintered compact 30. The sintered compact consists of a silicon carbide sintered layer 31 and a silicon carbide tungsten carbide sintered layer 32, and the silicon carbide tungsten carbide sintered layer 32 is used as a stress relaxing layer. Thus, the obtd. material consists of a silicon carbide sintered layer 51 containing flakes Sc of hexagonal boron nitride h-BN, a stress relaxing layer 52, a cemented carbide layer 53 and a joining enhancing layer 55 formed between the stress relaxing layer 52 and the cemented carbide layer 53. |
