<p>A system and method for an open GUI framework and distributed object server architecture using a URL-based approach to designating and accessing resources over the Internet. The resulting document is not only open, but also Internet distributed. A document is defined as the content of one or more distributed objects (41, 42), all linked to a receptionist object (40) directly or via an object request broker (43), and each of which is dynamically referenced in a 'WebDoc' (39). Upon access via a URL to a server controlling the receptionist object, the WebDoc is assembled and transferred to a client viewer, where the object content is rendered as frames by parts that correspond to each object type. The results is a rendered document. In one embodiment, the parts may be linked back to corresponding objects, indirectly or via the object request broker, to maintain update information in the objects.</p> |
