The drive transmission comprises a crank gear (3) rotated by pedals (4) located at the ends of two cranks (5). The crank gear is connected to the rear wheel (7) drive pinion (6) through an intermediate gear wheel (8) having two toothed stages (8a,8b). One stage (8b) is connected to the crank gear and the other to the drive pinion. The intermediate gear first toothed stage diameter (D1) is equal to or slightly less than that (D2) of the crank gear. The second toothed stage diameter (D3,D3') is greater than that of the crank gear. In this way the cycle obtains a velocity gain for a given torque supplied by the cyclist.
