New detergent and conditioning composition (I) comprises a washing base (II) and a conditioning system (III) containing at least one oil-in-water emulsion (IV) with oil globules of size < 150nm and an amphiphilic lipid phase (V) where (V) contains an amphiphilic non-ionic lipid (VI) which is liquid at temperatures < 45 deg C. Also claimed is a method of washing and conditioning keratinous fibres such as hair consisting of applying (I) followed by rinsing. Preferably (I) comprises one or more surfactants. (VI) is a silicone surfactant (VII) or the ester of at least one polyol (polyethyleneglycol, sorbitan, glycerol, or polyglycerol) and at least one fatty acid with a 8-22C alkyl chain. (VII) is a compound of formula R1-Si(CH3)(CH3)O-Si(CH3)(CH3)OA-Si(CH3)(R2)OB-Si(CH3)(CH3)-R3 (VIII), (CH3)3SiO-(CH3)2SiOA'-(CH3Si(CH2)2-(OCH2CH2)y'-OH)O)B'-SiO(CH3)3 (IX), or HO-(OCH2CH2)y-(CH2)3-(CH3)2SiOA'-(CH2)3-(OCH2CH2)y-OH; R1, R2, R3 = 1-6X alkyl or -(CH2)x-(OCH2CH2)y-(OCH2CH2CH2)z-OR4 group, but at least one is not an alkyl group; R4 = H or an alkyl or acyl group; and A = 0-200; B = 0-50; A+B /- 1; x = 1-6; y = 1-3; z = 0-5; A' = 20-105, B' = 2-10; and y', A'', y'' = 10-20. (I) also comprises at least one ionic amphiphilic lipid (X). (X) is an anionic lipid, an amphoteric lipid, or a cationic lipid (XI). (XI) is a quaternary ammonium salt (XII) or a fatty amine.
