TWO-DIMENSIONAL MATRIX ARRAY RADIATION DETECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-dimensional matrix array radiation detector capable of detecting a high-energy radiation with a superior in-plane uniformity. SOLUTION: The detector comprises unit elements composed at least of insulative trays 25 having holes formed like a matrix, and CdTe or other semiconductor radiation detector elements 15 disposed in the holes. The characteristics of each unit element are measured and selected to constitute a two-dimensional matrix array having uniform characteristics of the elements. It has a structure easy to form in a multilayer structure, and hence a high- energy radiation can be measured.
