TRAFFIC CONTROL METHOD, NETWORK SYSTEM AND FRAME RELAY EXCHANGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic control method, which can prevent the number of cells transmitted to an asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) from exceeding a maximum transmission rate. SOLUTION: At the time of transmitting a frame F from a frame relay network FR1 to inter-work function(IWF) 21a, a traffic control part 56, which the frame relay network FR1 possesses, measure transmission data quantity per measurement time in a data link connection identifier(DLCI) connecting the frame relay network FR1 and IWF21a. Then, the traffic control part 56 detects a traffic restriction level, corresponding to the measured transmission data quantity. A traffic restriction processing corresponding to the restriction level is executed, and frame transmission by the transmission destination terminal of the frame F is suppressed. Thus, the number of cells S transmitted to the ATM network 20 is prevented from exceeding the maximum transmission rate which has been contracted.
